For the Bowie Independent School District it has been 10 years since district voters were asked to vote on a bond for facility improvements and for Nocona ISD it has been more than 20 years since it took on new debt.
In Bowie the last bond issue funded athletic fields and other improvements while the high school was built after bonds were approved in 2007. For Nocona, a 2016 bond election failed as the district sought to build a new high school and prior to that it had 38 years since a bond election.
For both districts the age of their buildings are being felt in space and functionality, so their board of trustees appointed facility committees to explore the needs and come up with a plan. Those plans have been presented in numerous public meetings, club and organization meetings. Bowie Superintendent Blake Enlow and Nocona Superintendent Dr. David Waters have spent recent months meeting with taxpayers to explain the proposals.
