Montague County voter turnout 25.51%

Montague County had a strong turnout in Tuesday’s election where two school bond issues were decided, along leadership of the county’s largest city and 14 constitutional amendments.
Voter turnout was 25.51% Tuesday with 3,803 ballots cast out of the 14,907 registered voters. The only overall county ballot issues were the amendments, which followed the state in approving 13 of 14 amendments. The only one to fail in both places was Proposition 13 related to the retirement age for judges. Overall the statewide turnout for voting was 14.41%.
Property tax cuts, a raise for retired teachers and billions in investments in infrastructure, research, tech and energy were approved by voters on election day. Proposition 13, which would have allowed judges to retire at a later age was rejected with one-third of voters saying yes.
While not unexpected the most support went to proposition 4, the $18 billion property tax relief measure that raised the homestead exemption to $100,000. It received an overwhelming 84% of the statewide vote.
