Early voting begins Feb. 17

Early voting for the March 3 joint primary elections begins Feb. 17 and will continue through Feb. 27.
Montague County Elections Administrator Ginger Wall said they are getting ready for the upcoming election making sure the process runs smoothly for countywide voting.
Those wanting to cast their ballots early will have plenty of opportunities during the two-week period at the four locations across the county, along with extended hours at one location.
The early voting centers will be located at the courthouse annex in Montague, Saint Jo Civic Center, H.J. Justin Building in Nocona and Bowie Senior Citizens Center. All four will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, Feb. 17-Feb. 27.
Extended early voting hours will only be at the courthouse annex location. Ballots may be cast from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 21; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Feb. 22 and 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Feb. 23-Feb. 27.

Repairs prompt boil order

A boil water order was implemented Monday afternoon for the area served at U.S. Highway 81 from Parker Drive to Old Bowie Lake as water line repairs were made. The order remains in place today. If you are affected by this order and need bottled water call 940-977-4941.

County finalizes the proposed tax rate, budget

While the budget was the primary topics for the Montague County Commissioners on Aug. 10, there were several other topics handled by the court.
Tax Assessor Collector Kathy Phillips presented the certification of value and rates for the 2026 taxes. The certified net values are $3,017,685,102 with rolling railroad stock at $15,954,716.
The county’s total taxable value is $3,033,639,818. Total appraised is $7,930,674,437, total assessed at $3,629,932,719 and total taxable value of new property at $93,632,505.
