SUMMER ACTIVITIES: Bowie basketball camps nearing

The Bowie High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will be having camps coming up during the first week of June.
The camp for players from kindergarten through second grade will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. June 1-3 in the Bowie Junior High School gymnasium.
The camp for players from third through sixth grade will occur from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. from June 1-4, also in the junior high gym.
The camp for players from seventh through ninth grade will be from 2:30 to 5 p.m. from June 1-4, at the junior high school.
The cost of the camp is $55 for kindergarten through second grade and $75 for third- through ninth-graders. There will be $10 discounts for the children of Bowie Independent School District employees, and for each additional family member. The late fee is $10, if registering after May 25.
Walk-ins and players from all school districts are welcome.
These camps will focus on fundamentals, ball handling, dribbling, shooting and fastbreaks.
There will be contests for the following: Knockout, free-throw shooting, speed dribbling, hot shot, freeze out, relay races, Simon says and red light-green light.
There will be 1-on-1, 3-on-3 and full 5-on-5 games.
The concession stand will be available every day. The first 100 campers will receive both a T-shirt and basketball.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Bowie girls’ basketball team will have a mini-camp from 8-10 a.m. on June 1-3 at the high school.
Girls from kindergarten through fourth grade will learn the proper fundamentals of shooting, dribbling, passing and defense.
The cost is $45. The charge is $35 for the children of school employees and for each additional camper.
Instruction will be provided by Lady Rabbit basketball players. Also, another camp is slated called the Lady Rabbit Basketball Academy which will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school.
This camp is for fifth- through ninth-grade girls.
The cost is $75. The charge is $65 for the children of school employees and for each additional camper.
The basketball academy will allow girls the chance to work with the Lady Rabbit basketball staff in a smaller group setting similar to a high school practice.
Girls will learn specific drills, terminology, and how the program operates.
All participants will receive a camp T-shirt.

Summer basketball camps are coming this week

Basketball camps will be split up from boys and girls at both Bowie and Nocona camps next week. Both are scheduled for May 28-30 and will accept walk-ups.

With summer starting up, the first few days can be spent with kids spending some time learning basketball fundamentals and having fun at either Bowie or Nocona.
For Bowie kids, both boy and girl camps will be on May 28-30 and will cost $60 per camper. School employs will have to pay $50.
There will be two sessions for younger and older kids.
For the girl’s camp, incoming 2-5th graders will make up the younger kid session which will be at the junior high from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The older session will be incoming 6-9th graders which will be at the high school from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
The boy’s camp will have incoming campers from kindergarten to 5th grade in the first session at the junior high from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
The older session for incoming 6-9th graders will be scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school.
Both camp registration forms can be found on the Bowie ISD Athletics Facebook page.
Walk-ups on the first day also will be available.

For Nocona kids, both boy and girl basketball camps will be on May 28-30 and will cost $50 per camper.
The girl’s basketball camp will have incoming 5-9th graders in the high school gym from 9 a.m. to noon. The younger session of incoming kindergarteners to 4th graders will be at the elementary school gym from 1-3 p.m.
The boy’s basketball camp will have oncoming 5-9th graders at the elementary school gym from 9-11 a.m. The incoming kindergarteners to 4th graders will be in the high school gym from 12:30-3:30 p.m.

Gold-Burg Sports Awards

Gold-Burg hosted its high school awards banquet on May 16. Jayon Grace was chosen for the boy’s Iron Bear award, given to the best overall athlete by Coach Christian Healer.
