Punxsutawney Phil says prepare for early spring?

It’s Groundhog Day and Pennsylvania’s most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, emerged from his hole this morning without seeing his shadow, so prepare for an early spring.

“Is this current warm weather more than a trend? Perchance this winter has come to an end,” Phil said through his top hat-wearing translator. “There is no shadow to be cast. An early spring is my forecast.”

As far as accuracy goes, the StormFax Weather Almanac said since the groundhog began predicting the length of winter in 1887, Phil has been right about 39 percent of the time.

Texas has so far enjoyed a relatively mild winter, so let’s hope Phil is right this time.

A BOIL WATER NOTICE remains in effect for City of Bowie, TX water customers along Highway 81 from Parker Road to Old Bowie Lake. Affected customers should use bottled or boiled water for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth. Results of water testing should be available shortly after noon today. If the testing is good, the BOIL WATER NOTICE may be lifted shortly thereafter

A boil water order was implemented Monday afternoon for the area served at U.S. Highway 81 from Parker Drive to Old Bowie Lake as water line repairs were made. The order remains in place today. If you are affected by this order and need bottled water call 940-977-4941.
