The Bowie Junior High cheerleading team completed its four-day cheer camp week last week and came home with all of the awards according to sponsor/coach Lindsey Childs.
The team traveled to Tarleton State University on June 19-22 to participate in the National Cheerleading Association Camp.
As a team, it won three superior blue ribbons, the Herkie Team Award (given out each night after evaluation which other teams vote on), the St. Jude certificate and Stunts S.A.F.E. certificate.
The team also won the top chant and cheer trophies in the junior high division. The team won four spirit sticks, including bringing one back to Bowie for the most sincere spirit and enthusiasm for each day, while taking into account attitude during classes, promptness, cooperation, relationships with other teams and leadership.
On top of everything, the squad also earned its National Federation of State High School Associations credentials and a bid for the NCA National Events.
Individually the team had nine members earn All-American nominations: Ayslie Makings, Lillie Maddox, Sophie Maddox, Macie Martin, Aowyn Word, Taelyn Webb, Mylee Lee, Emma Lynch and Giahna Cantu.
In the end, Lillie Maddox was named to the All-American cheer team. Makings was as well as a mascot while also earning two excellent red ribbons and one superior blue ribbon.
Bowie High School cheer sponsor/coach Destanie Curry, who was there to help Childs at camp, ended up winning the Congeniality Coach award, selected from approximately 50 coaches at the camp.
