Bowie City Council faces long agenda
Members of the Bowie City Council will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. on Aug. 14.
A public hearing on the proposed budget opens the meeting, following public comments. The first reading of the ordinance to adopt the budget will be on the Aug. 28 agenda.
The council also will vote on a proposed tax rate and set a public hearing for it on Aug. 28.
The only item of old business is the calling of the Nov. 7 council election. The remainder of the agenda focuses on new business.
The proposed 2023-24 budgets for the Bowie Economic Development Corporation and the Bowie 4B Sales Tax Corporation. Re-appointments to the BEDC boards also will be considered.
Waste Connections has requested its consumer price index rate adjustment.
A pair of resolutions related to the grants for the water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant and lift station, city hall and emergency operations center emergency generators will be reviewed along with an interlocal agreement with the Nortex Regional Planning Commission for 911 public safety answering point services.

Repairs prompt boil order
A boil water order was implemented Monday afternoon for the area served at U.S. Highway 81 from Parker Drive to Old Bowie Lake as water line repairs were made. The order remains in place today. If you are affected by this order and need bottled water call 940-977-4941.

County finalizes the proposed tax rate, budget

While the budget was the primary topics for the Montague County Commissioners on Aug. 10, there were several other topics handled by the court.
Tax Assessor Collector Kathy Phillips presented the certification of value and rates for the 2026 taxes. The certified net values are $3,017,685,102 with rolling railroad stock at $15,954,716.
The county’s total taxable value is $3,033,639,818. Total appraised is $7,930,674,437, total assessed at $3,629,932,719 and total taxable value of new property at $93,632,505.
