City of Bowie selects engineer for Rock/Pillar repair
By BARBARA GREEN

An engineer has been selected and has begun work to design the drainage repairs at Pillar and Rock Streets.
City Manager Bert Cunningham told the council about the selection at the June 24 meeting, less than a week after the intersection of those two streets was closed due to a sinkhole, along with collapsing dirt sidewalls above the creek. This repair is just part of the ongoing drainage problems along this creek that run throughout Bowie west to east causing flooding. Late last year the city spent just under $3 million to making extensive repairs at Mill and Nelson to help solve those flooding problems. With additional water flow down the creek bed, the problems at Rock and Pillar were not unexpected. The heavy March rainfall only washed away dirt around and under the rusted out culverts.
Cunningham and Public Works Director Stony Lowrance have been meeting with prospective engineers to consider plans for the repairs. They have selected Blaine Boswell of Corlett, Probst & Boyd from Wichita Falls. He reportedly has extensive experience with drainage issues. Preliminary estimates indicate the project may run about $1.5 million.

Amon Carter Lake Water Corp. reorganizes board
By BARBARA GREEN
editor@bowienewsonline.com
After more than a year of turmoil and upheaval it appears the Amon Carter Lake Water Supply Corporation is back on its feet with a slate of new board members and plans to review by-laws and operations.
Last August all the board members resigned in the wake of a lawsuit by a resident who could not obtain water for a small housing development despite being in the district. The property owner also accused the board of not following open meetings or open records laws, or its own by-laws.
After the board resigned a receivership was requested from the court and was named in December 2025. The receiver or temporary manager was Nocona attorney Zach Renfro, who was directed by the court to seek out possible directors to rehabilitate the association and assure it meets the obligation of continuing to provide water to more than 300 members.
The corporation board conducted its first general membership meeting on March 27 where a state of the corporation was given and new directors
named. They are Kevin McShan, president; Josh Swint, vice president; Carla Swofford, secretary; Wesley Kelly, treasurer; Zach Gunter, Rob Hankins and Chase Thomas, all directors.
