HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Cook, Brady steer the stars

The Bowie News all-star girls’ basketball team is heavy on the guards, but that’s because there are so many quality players to go around.
The all-star team features plenty of ball-handlers and girls who enjoy defense with plenty of steals per game.
Courtney Brady and Addy Cook were named the all-star captains because both were named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Conference 3A Region 2 team.
The rest of the team features two girls from Bowie, four from Forestburg, four from Bellevue, two from Nocona, two from Gold-Burg and one each from Saint Jo and Prairie Valley. There also is a list of honorable mention players.
Bowie (26-7) handled plenty of adversity this season, but the Lady Rabbits still pulled through for another district championship and they advanced to the regional quarterfinals for the fifth consecutive year. The girls also placed fourth in the Whataburger Tournament.
Nocona nearly made the playoffs, but fell to Henrietta during a play-in game by seven points. The Lady Indians equaled last year’s win total with 16 victories.
Forestburg captured second place in District 1A-21 with Bellevue third. Read more in the March 19 Bowie News.

Alexia Britain, Forestburg: Became a force in the post in District 1A-21 this year, and she was named all-district most valuable defensive player. Britain had nearly two blocked shots per game while recording a double-double all season (19.1 points and 14.7 boards per game). Read more biographies in the March 19 Bowie News.
