Bowie Chamber of Commerce seeks citizen award nominees

The Bowie Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 2016 Frances Brite Outstanding Citizen of the Year award that will be presented at the Jan. 30 chamber banquet.
The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. on Jan. 20. Nomination forms are available at the chamber office at 201A Walnut or call Executive Director Diane Thomlinson to receive one electronically.
Non-form nominations also will be accepted. Be sure to include any documentation such as newspaper clippings or photos to support your nomination.
The citizen award is for a single citizen who has worked with, for and in the community during the past 12 months.
This nominee has demonstrated a commitment to the community, has a record of contributions to its welfare and has had success in promoting, advancing or serving the community.
No individual business awards will be presented this year as the chamber plans to highlight all its member businesses at the banquet.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.
