IN BRIEF: Bowie JV maroon falls to Boyd

The Bowie High School junior varsity maroon team lost to Boyd on the road Friday.
The Lady Jackets prevailed over the Lady Rabbits by scores of 25-12, 25-21.
Lauren Gill and Ivy Dennis both scooped up five digs and had one kill. Dennis also dished off five assists for Bowie.
Cora Rolls notched four digs and Kylie Robinson and Heather Skinner three digs apiece. Skinner also put down two kills and recorded a solo ace block.
Aubrey Gill added two solo ace stuffs.
The team stands at 12-10 overall.
The JV white squad didn’t play. Both teams were in action Tuesday at Jacksboro.

Twisted Oaks to have golf event

The Bright Future Scramble will take place at Twisted Oaks Golf Course in rural Bowie on Oct. 23.
The scramble will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a shotgun start.
The cost is $25 per person, and includes golf, prizes and food. There will be a cookout at the end of play.
Advanced reservations are requested for the tournament.
Call 872-4000 to make reservations to play in the event.
Note, Twisted Oaks is the new name of the former Top O’ The Lake Golf Course.

Saint Jo JV football falls to Tioga

 

The Saint Jo High School junior varsity football team played on Oct. 9 against Tioga at Harley Sewell Field.
The Panthers lost 32-20.
T.J. Lindenborn opened the scoring with a touchdown run for the Panthers.
Both Juan E. Sanchez and Lindenborn caught TD passes from quarterback Clay Hall in the second half to keep the score close.
Christian Johnson was Saint Jo’s leading tackler on defense, and he snared an interception.
Saint Jo played two junior varsity games this season.

The deadline for statistics in the mid-week newspaper is 10 a.m. on Tuesday and 5 p.m. on Thursday in the weekend edition.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

Botard new BHS girls BB coach

After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.

Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.

“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”

Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
