A gruesome Halloween night murder has shaken the Bowie community.

Bowie Police discovered the burned body of a 28-year-old man Saturday morning and arrested Scott Allen Cambre, charging him with murder.

Police Chief Guy Green said this is the first murder in 20 years that occurred inside the city limits. The last one investigated by the department was the shooting death of Jimmy Thompson.

The shooting occurred Friday night around 8 p.m. said Assistant Chief Kent Staff, but police did not learn of it until 6:30 a.m. Saturday when an “eyewitness” came to the department.

The victim of the murder is Wesley Dean Brooks, 28, Bowie. Stagg said they have not received confirmation that body found Saturday morning is Brooks, but they strongly believe that to be correct.
