EQUINE EVENTS: Major claims title at AQHA worlds

Holly Major, of rural Bowie, captured the world championship in amateur ranch horse pleasure at the 2014 American Quarter Horse Association World Championships on Nov. 13 in Oklahoma City at Oklahoma State Fair Park.
Major showed her quarter horse “Circa Shine.”
The 2004 sorrel stallion, sired by A Chic in Time and out of Shining Smart, was bred in Iowa by Rick Langland.
In the amateur ranch horse pleasure class, 95 entries competed for world champion honors and a purse totaling $26,587.65.
Major earned a custom-designed gold trophy, Montana Silversmiths buckle, a specially-designed jacket with a world champion patch designation, an embroidered blanket, neck wreath, medallion and 100 pounds of feed.
The AQHA World Show is the pinnacle event for quarter horse owners and exhibitors around the world.
Contestants qualify by earning points in each of the classes representing halter, English and western disciplines.
Overall, there were more than 3,600 entries in more than 100 categories in competition at the show, which runs until Nov. 22.
