Nocona senior takes state feature writing title

Abigail Hill, Nocona High School valedictorian, is the 2026 UIL feature writing state champion. Nocona faculty have been looking through school records and UIL records to see when Nocona last had someone won state. UIL record archives only date back to 1983 and they didn’t see anyone listed as winning a gold medal in Academic UIL. According to Nocona records, she is the first UIL Academic Champion since 1973. Two of 4 school districts sign BISD transfer MOU

As of July 24, two of the districts that pick up transfer students inside Bowie Independent School District have agreed to enter into a memorandum of understanding that outlines parameters for transportation including a fee to the district and acceptance of transfer students.
Of the four districts BISD was negotiating with, Bellevue and Forestburg ISDs have approved the MOU, while Gold-Burg’s Board of Trustees voted no during a July 22 meeting and Montague released a statement on July 16 explaining the no vote.

BISD fills all of its principal, assistant positions

Bowie Independent School District can now more forward with preparations for the new school year as the final assistant principal position was filled and all the campus leadership is set.
As the old school year wound down BISD was scrambling to fill two principal positions and two assistant positions, following resignations and a promotion from assistant.
Following an executive session on July 20, the school board offered a one-year probationary term contract to Diana Calderon as assistant principal at Bowie High. She brings high school administration experience and is bilingual. Calderon joins Dean Johnson, who began work as principal last month.

Bowie ISD board meets on July 20

Bowie School Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. on July 20 opening their agenda with personnel updates and student handbook updates.
The board also will call an election for three places on the November ballot. They are presently filled by Guy Green, place five, Lee Hughes, place six and Keith Richey, place seven.
In action items the certificate of compliance with certain laws related to Senate Bill 12 will be presented, followed by possible action on certified values from Montague, Clay and Jack Counties.
Student transfers and the 2026-27 appraisal calendar and appraisers will be considered.
A closed session is slated to review the Texas Association of School Boards salary study, review a candidate for assistant principal at the high school and review the 2023-26 safety and security audit survey.
Back in open session the board may consider action on those topics including an offer of a probationary term contract for the BHS assistant principal. The board also will schedule future meetings.
