SPORTS IN BRIEF: Franklin set for national tryout
Gold-Burg High School freshman Hannah Franklin has been invited to try out for the USA Junior National Volleyball Team.
Tryouts will take place on Sunday at Cedar Valley in College in Dallas.
Franklin was both a setter and outside hitter for Gold-Burg this past season under first-year head coach Lyndsey Shaw.
Hannah is the 15-year-old daughter of Janis and J.J. Franklin of Bowie.
Fun run set for Lawton Dec. 6
The 20th annual “Frost Ya’ Fanny” five-kilometer run and one-mile fun run are set for 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 6.
The run will begin at the Museum of the Great Plains.
There will be a kids’ candy cane chase at 4:45 p.m., followed by a one-mile fun run at 5 p.m. and the five-kilometer race at 5:30 p.m.
This is a United States of America Track and Field certified course and sanctioned event. Computerized chips will be in use.
The Lawton Parks and Recreation Department serves as the race sponsor.

Fantasy of Lights basketball tourney next week
The Bowie High School girls’ basketball team as well as Bellevue girls and Nocona and Bellevue boys’ programs will compete from Friday through Saturday, Nov. 28-29 at the 34th annual Fantasy of Lights Tournament.
The event takes place at assorted venues throughout Wichita Falls and surrounding communities.
Competing in the large school girls’ division, Bowie will play Amarillo Palo Duro in the opening round on Friday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. at Iowa Park High School.
Bowie will either play Wichita Falls Hirschi or Cleburne in a championship or consolation bracket game on Saturday, Nov. 29.
The championship game is slated for D.L. Ligon Coliseum at Midwestern State University on Saturday at 7 p.m.
In the small school girls’ division, Bellevue will take on Texoma Christian of Sherman at 9:30 a.m. and then Quanah at 2 p.m. on Friday.
The Lady Eagles have been placed in Pool B.
The game against Texoma Christian will be at Iowa Park and the Quanah contest at Wichita Falls Rider High School.
The championship game is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday. The consolation game is at 1 p.m., both at Ligon Coliseum.
In the small school boys’ bracket, Nocona takes on Archer City at Burkburnett on Friday at 1:30 p.m. followed by the Wichita Falls Heat at Iowa Park at 6 p.m. on Friday.
These are games in Pool A.
In Pool B, Bellevue takes on City View at Iowa Park at 9:30 a.m. and then New Way Christian in Odessa at Wichita Falls Rider at 1 p.m.
The championship game is set for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The consolation game is at 2:30 p.m., both at Ligon Coliseum.
The large school boys championship rounds things out at 8:30 p.m.
Bowie Boosters make purchase for powerlifting program
The Bowie Athletic Boosters Club made a purchase during its meeting on Monday in the Bowie High School commons.
The boosters purchased suits and miscellaneous supplies for the powerlifting program valued at more than $1,000.

A positive culture can be tough to install but will reap dividends if done correctly.
Trinadee Imotichey is trying to do just that with her Forestburg Lady Longhorns.
Imotichey, an assistant coach on the 2025 Forestburg volleyball team, was moved into the head coaching position. Last year’s coach, Cori Hayes, took over as football head coach.
Imotichey, in her 2nd year in Forestburg, said she learned a lot from Hayes and is ready to take over.

Bowie’s summer softball league team overcame a 6-1 deficit with a six-run third inning for a 7-6 win over Bridgeport in its season opener July 6.
The league consists of teams from Bowie, Nocona, Lindsay, Bridgeport, and Alvord and will last three weeks. Bowie will host games each week.
Bowie pitcher Hazel Trahern gave up two singles and a groundout to put the Sissies on the board in the first. It would be the only hits she gave up in the game. Two groundouts and a strikeout got the Lady Rabbits out of the jam.
Bowie got the run back in the bottom of the first with Andee Jo Miller opening the frame with a walk and a stolen base. She then scored on Kynlee Baker’s groundout to tie the game at one.

Sage Keck, an 8th grader at Montague, lives by this mantra. No ifs, ands and buts about it.
She’s been running since fourth grade PE classes where she would run a mile every week. After discovering she could outrun the other students, she began to enjoy it and continued doing it.
Her success continued, as she finished 2nd overall against more than 200 runners at the Old Saint Jo 5K July 4. In last weekend’s Texas Junior Olympics, she reached the pinnacle of her career so far by qualifying for the United States of America Track and Field (USATF) National Junior Olympics in Norwalk, Calif. in three events.
