Members of the Bowie City Council moved forward with several large projects Monday night, appointed members of the Bowie Community Development Board and approved a trio of property replat requests.
City officials approved an agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a $451,654.21 grant that will help make repairs along the Brushy Creek tributary. The city’s match will be $138,757 for $590,411.21
City Manager Bert Cunningham explained through this grant, repairs will be initiated along the creek that runs from near the Allsup’s Store on State Highway 59, along State Highway 59 through the neighborhoods to Mill Street, Kiwanis Park, the Lamb Street bridge which is closed and through neighborhoods on the east side of town to Gallia Street. He urged the council to approve the agreement as “it will be our first step in fixing the creek and bridges.”
Unanimous approval was given. Cunningham said he does not have a timeline with this grant, as he sent the paperwork in on Tuesday.
