Bowie City Council names charter commission members

The Bowie City Council Monday night approved a slate of 13 citizens to lead a charter review committee that will prepare updates for the citizens to consider in an election.
Talks about updating the charter, originally approved in an April 1984 election, have been ongoing for several years, but finally, a new commission has been named to begin that work. The council was given a list of 23 possible candidates and asked to vote.
There was debate about the number of members going from seven to 13. City Manager Bert Cunningham said the original group had 15 members. Diana Higgins said she liked 11 which provides enough diversity of expertise on the panel and her motion to go with 11 was approved with Chuck Malone the lone no vote. However, as the council began voting on the members it was decided to accept 13 names to allow for alternates in case someone could not serve.
Those selected by the council were: Lee Adams, Bill Calabretta, Brandon Earp, Margin Latham, TJay McEwen, Dean Myers, Brent Shaw, Craig Stallcup, Dillon Steen, Ward Wallace, Pat Walters, Windol Robbins and Randy West. Ward Wallace is the only repeat member on the commission as he served on the original.
