Firefighter killed in crash responding to fire

Duncan Cameron Henderson, 65, member of the Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department, was killed in a one-vehicle rollover accident on Crenshaw Road during the early morning hours of Wednesday when he was responding to a grass fire call.
Members of the Nocona Rural and Ringgold VFDs, along with Nocona EMS responded to the report of a crash at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday. Nocona Rural Chief Rusty Henley said they arrived on scene to find a single male occupant deceased in an apparent single-vehicle rollover crash in a personally owned vehicle.
Henderson was a member of the Ringgold VFD and it appears he had been responding to the fire station for a call just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday when the crash occurred.
The Department of Public Safety is investigating and reports the driver lost control on the dirt road due to high speed and rolled his 2003 Chevrolet pickup.
He was not located until four hours later. Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene. He also was wearing his seatbelt.
Rusty Henley of the Nocona Rural VFD this line of duty death is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
Henderson has been a member of the Ringgold VFD for five years and served as assistant chief.
Arrangements are pending.

City staff examines new generators for water plant

City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
