Bowie golf competes at regional tournament

Published

on

Despite neither team punching a ticket to the state tournament this year, both the Bowie boy’s and girl’s golf teams competed well at the regional meet this week in Baird.
Played over the course of two days each, the Bowie boy’s team finished fifth overall while the plucky girl’s team finished 11th.
The boy’s team came into the tournament with expectations to try and get back to the state tournament for the second straight year. Last year’s team came back on the second day from several shots and places back to earn the final qualifying spot despite the weather being worse. This year the inverse happened.
Following the first day of the tournament, the Jackrabbits were sitting behind the two Brock teams in third place after shooting 337 as a team. The next day almost everyone shot a bit worse which added 19 shots to the previous day’s total for 356 to finish fifth.
Andrew Sandhoff was the lowest scorer both days for Bowie, shooting 79 and 83 as he finished 10th overall in the individual players. Cy Egenbacher was next shooting 81 and 88 as he finished 19th in the individual standings.
Zac Harris shot 87, 90 and Hunter Lea shot 90, 101. Senior Hunter Duke, in his final high school tournament, shot 100 the first day and was the only team member to improve the second day as he shot 95.
The Lady Rabbits team did not have as high expectations, so big time score improvements each day were as a good as they could have asked for.
The team shot 456 on the first day, which was seven shots better than what the team shot at the district meet.
That score was blown out of the water on day two when the team improved by 27 shots as each girls set career best rounds all on the same day.
Senior Halle Duvall led the team as she shot 95 the first day and 91 the second day to end her high school career finishing 17th individually. Neely Price shot 112, 106; Rylie Vieth shot 118, 108; Hadlee Jones shot 131, 124.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

Published

on

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
