Jim Bowie Days ready to roll
Jim Bowie Days arrives this week with games for the kids, rodeo action for the entire family and of course a western parade.
The 48th annual Jim Bowie Days Festival and Rodeo began this past Saturday night with a new kickoff event to not only to launch the week, but to raise funds for its scholarship program. Guests enjoyed a Mexican dinner, live auction and a dance featuring the Cody Robbins Band.
Youth rodeo action took place on June 24 with speed events and roping events on June 25.
The Jim Bowie Days Rodeo takes place on June 27 and 28. Slack was set to run on June 26 if needed. Tickets to this year’s UPRA/TCRA rodeo are $8 at the gate, five-year-olds and under are free. Get tickets from a Jim Bowie Days queen contestant for $6 in advance.

Bowie Public Library’s Summer Reading program continues on July 16 with the Olympics.
It will be all about the upcoming Summer Olympics with outdoor games at the soccer field. Summer reading wraps up with the popular Creature Teacher on July 23 who brings lots of animals to the kids to see up close.

Summer reading is open to children ages 0-12. Keep a summer reading log and earn a book.

Nocona Library’s Summer Reading program continues at 10 a.m. on July 17 at the Justin Building at 100 Clay Street.
The program will be space adventures and include a demonstration of a drone. Make plans to attend.
