HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Nocona opens season with Alvord

The Nocona High School football team is coming off one of its cruelest seasons ever.
But, the page has turned on the 2014 campaign and the new year is upon us, with the Indians beginning practices on Aug. 3.
Nocona will open up the season at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 versus Alvord. Muenster and Ponder also are non-district opponents this season.
Head coach Brad Keck said although the University Interscholastic League has done away with binding contracts between schools, many still operate under the old ways.
“That’s the way it worked out,” Keck said of the non-district schedule. “They’ve stayed the same.”
Local rival Muenster visits Nocona on Sept. 4 and the Indians play at Ponder on Sept. 11.
Nocona’s open week is set for Sept. 18 before its District 2-3A-II opener on the road at Henrietta.
The district home opener will be on Oct. 2 versus Holliday.
The Indians also have district road games at Cisco (Oct. 9), City View (Oct. 16) and Eastland (Oct. 30).
