Bowie High School senior Gabe Allen opened Saturday’s District 3A-8 game with a single, and that sparked the Jackrabbit offense.
Allen had a career-best kind of game, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and four runs scored as the Jackrabbits defeated in-county and District 3A-8 rival Nocona 12-1 in six innings.
“Gabe set the tone,” Bowie head coach Ryan Rogers said. “The kids worked hard, and took better approaches. Gabe hit that line drive right at the start. All the guys did a fantastic job of taking what was given to us.”
Allen eventually scored his first run of the game on what proved to be one of five Nocona errors in the game.
Bowie’s young team also handled its first major rain delay with aplomb. The game was originally scheduled for Bob Storey Field in Nocona; however, rain moved it Bowie. The teams tried to play the game late Friday, but lighting and prevailing mist forced the game to be played on Saturday. Read more in the April 26 Bowie News.
