Bowie Fire receives $25,000 in grant funding

The City of Bowie was awarded nearly $25,000 in grant funds to enhance operations and safety in response to fires and other emergencies.
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn announced the $24,809.52 grant this week. The funding comes through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which aims to strengthen the nation’s overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and related hazards.
“Firefighters are on the front lines of keeping our communities safe, and they deserve every resource possible at their disposal,” said the senator. “I applaud area leaders for their work to obtain this grant.”
Bowie Fire Chief Doug Page said the funds will be used for equipment and gear, and while it is only a partial grant based on the application the chief said they will put the funds to good use.
