The Bowie High School junior varsity team opened the 2014 football season against Hirschi at Jackrabbit Stadium on Thursday.
After enduring a slow start, the team rallied in the second half to take the season opener 34-20.
“The players could’ve given up, but they didn’t,” Bowie head coach Dylan Stark said. “I was proud of the team and how they bounced back. We have to take care of the ball better and we are working on tackling every week.”
Stark said the players made solid adjustments all game long, and that contributed to the win.
The first quarter was a defensive battle, and neither team was able to put up points.
The Jackrabbits offense made a few costly mistakes in the second quarter as the ball was stripped and recovered by the Hirschi defense twice. The Huskies also intercepted a Bowie pass, which resulted in a Huskies touchdown.
Bowie’s comeback began late in the second as Rylan Dorman caught a pass from Jeffery Howard from 25 yards out for the score.
