Nocona High School head football coach and athletic director Brad Keck was an assistant coach at Springtown under Bill Reed.
Now, Reed’s son Bryce Reed has joined the Nocona football coaching staff as offensive coordinator.
“Brad worked with my dad, and I have a lot of respect for him,” said Reed, who also likes Nocona’s Coaches Outreach program, a Bible study on Sunday evenings.
Reed most recently served as the offensive coordinator at Hillsboro, which just went through a turbulent season.
Reed was starting quarterback for three years at Springtown during the 1990s, reaching the state semifinal once before falling to Commerce.
“My father was the winningest coach in Springtown history, and he also was the athletic director,” Reed said.
Reed earned his bachelor’s degree from Tarleton State in Stephenville, after playing one year of college football and baseball at East Central Oklahoma in Ada.
In addition to his football coaching responsibilities, Reed has been named the head boys’ track and field and powerlifting coach and special education teacher at Nocona Middle School.

Montague County All-Stars host Fall Games
For the second year, Montague County All-Stars hosted its annual Fall Games at Saint Jo High School Oct. 21.
Representatives from nearly every county elementary and high school took part in the day-long event. Students with assorted disabilities learned how to play basketball in the morning and volleyball in the afternoon.
Helping teach the finer points of both games were players and coaches from all the area high schools. Individual skills such as passing, dribbling, and shooting were taught in one of the school’s gyms before athletes were broken up into teams and played timed games in the other gym.
Some of the younger athletes had issues with the ball dribbling and got hit in the nose. Eventually they all got the hang of it, one even getting a basket.
