Bellevue senior earns top 12 finalist in national contest

Bellevue senior John Michael Grunseich recently participated in the “Delo Tractor Restoration Competition,” which is a national competition open to high school students throughout the country.

Grunseich restored a 1971 John Deere 5020. The “Delo Tractor Restoration Competition” requires its contestants to create a four to five minute video of their including the tractor running along with a walk around the tractor.

Competitors must also prepare a record book that entails all that occurred during the restoration accompanied by pictures of important tasks completed. Grunseich’s tractor was one of 12 finalists who were selected to give an oral presentation this October in Louisville, KY.

Bowie ISD losing two administrators

While outside district busses was the main topic Monday night, the board also considered administrator contracts for the next year and accepted two resignations.
Superintendent Donna Hale said Assistant Superintendent Lee Ann Farris is resigning to take a job with Region 11 Service Center, and Joann Keeler, high school principal, will be leaving the district.
The other administrators which includes the other three principals all received one-year extension on their contracts.

Bowie Steppers schedule tryouts

Bowie High School Steppers’ tryouts are being planned. On Feb. 23-25 candidates will learn the choreography and on March 2 try out for the judges. It will be in the high school gym around 4:30 p.m.
Any eighth grade or high school girl who may be interested can contact Coach Lauren Dosch or Mayson Hornsby at the high school.

Bowie School Trustees open 2026

A variety of topics were tackled by the Bowie Independent School District Trustees during their first meeting of the new year on Jan. 19.
A room full of parents and second graders opened the night as Elementary Principal Heather Wheeler introduced 14 students who competed in University Interscholastic League contests. Second grade is the first opportunity for students to compete in a variety of UIL categories from chess to creative writing. The chess team won first place and music memory team took second.
Members of the school board also were recognized during January’s School Board Recognition Month, receiving district and campus gifts.
In operations’ reports, Superintendent Donna Hale noted district enrollment is 1,468, down one from last month. The attendance rate is 95.33%.
