Bowie City Council to consider legal counsel over Bowie Hospital Authority
Legal issues will dominate the Tuesday Bowie City Council agenda, including the city’s position in regard to the Bowie Hospital Authority and the future of Bowie Memorial Hospital.
The city council will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. on April 7 in the city community room council chambers.
Bowie Memorial has continued to struggle since its failure to get voters to support the creation of a taxing district in a May 19, 2011 election. That question failed at the ballot box, 1,644 to 973.
The ensuing years have been fraught with financial strains stemming from ongoing cuts in Medicare and federal reimbursements. There also have been staff cuts and the sale of properties, all to streamline its operations.
While the hospital has made strides, it’s apparently not near enough. Two members of the board and the CEO recently met with City Manager Ricky Tow, plus Mayor Gene Brown and incoming Mayor Larry Slack.
All the turmoil has led to the dismissal of Michael McEachern, chief executive officer of the hospital, on the job almost one year. He learned of the action this week and a formal announcement is expected Monday by Community Hospital Corporation.

The Montague County Sheriff’s Office staff is providing the following information regarding a fatal incident involving a juvenile following a law enforcement pursuit.
On 11/01/2026 at approximately 12:21 A.M., a vehicle involved in a law enforcement pursuit crashed in the 3600 block of Cardwell Road in Montague County. The juvenile was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was ejected as a result of the crash.
Responding law enforcement personnel immediately initiated life-saving measures at the scene. The juvenile was subsequently transported to Nocona General Hospital, where, despite continued life-saving efforts, the juvenile was pronounced deceased.
The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene and conducted the crash
investigation.
Staff from the following agencies responded and assisted during this incident:

- Nocona EMS
- Nocona Rural Fire Department
- Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
