Bowie City Council gets a new look with two councilors, mayor
Three new members joined the Bowie City Council Tuesday including a mayor and two council members, all elected on May 9.
After the votes were canvassed and accepted, the new members received the oath of office from Mayor Gene Brown. New to the council are Mayor Larry Slack, Councilors Wayne Bell and Jim Graham, and returning Councilor Tim Adams.
Those leaving the council were presented with Bowie knife plaques in appreciation of their service to the city. They include Brown, Mary Owens and Laura Sproles. Mayor Slack thanked the council members for their service and their dedication to what can often be a difficult and trying job. Heat advisory continues into Friday night
The heat advisory that has been in place all week continues until 8 p.m. Friday night.
The National Weather Service reports strong high pressure overhead will bring triple digit high temperatures along with heat index readings approaching 110 degrees for much of next week. To reduce risk of heat related illnesses when outdoors, schedule frequent breaks in shaded or air conditioned areas, and stay hydrated.
Make sure to check on your older neighbors to make sure they are staying cool and hydrates, and make sure pets have shade and water.
