The Bowie High School volleyball team needed someone to play at an elite level on Tuesday in its District 3A-9 match at Boyd.
In stepped Addy Cook, who peppered Boyd with a career-best 25 kills and a stout .263 hitting percentage as the Lady Rabbits topped the Lady Jackets by scores of 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21.
Bowie improved to 16-12 overall and picked up its first district victory of the campaign.
“We knew Boyd was going to be a really tough team, they are defensively sound and have gotten stronger at hitting,” Bowie head coach Jeanie Stark said.
Stark said Bowie simplified its offense and sent the ball to the outside for the duration of the match.
“It was a great team effort and team win,” Stark added.
Bowie will need to play this way moving forward since Karlyn Dean has been lost for the season with a knee injury, specifically an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear.
Cook also supplied nine assists, six digs and two ace serves.
Mackenzie Tole had two solo ace blocks to try and make up for Dean’s loss in the middle. Carcyn Robertson, Ivy Dennis, Madison Little and Taylor Thompson each provided one solo ace block. Read more in the weekend Bowie News.
