HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Gold-Burg claims district conquest

A season of firsts continued for the Gold-Burg High School volleyball team on Friday as the Lady Bears recorded their first district win since 2012, beating Prairie Valley 25-19, 25-10, 25-15.
Gold-Burg now sits in seventh in District 2A-10 at 1-4 (4-21 overall) while the Lady Bulldogs are 5-11, 0-5.
Christina Arevalo, who would be named Homecoming Queen later on, scooped up eight digs and Shelby Horton added six digs.
Offensively, Lexy Hand recorded a team-best seven kills and Hannah Franklin five. Franklin served up a whopping 17 aces and Hand added six.
Brooklynn Messer paced Prairie Valley’s defense with five digs, and she added a couple of assists. Taylor Carter added a pair of ace stuffs. Kincaid Johnson had one kill and one ace block. See more results and statistics in the mid-week Bowie News.
