Montague County Sheriff’s Office investigates drowning

Published

The Montague County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accidental drowning of a Nocona man last Saturday.

Chief Deputy J.T. Mitchell said the sheriff’s office was contacted at 3:40 p.m. about a drowning victim who had been pronounced dead at Bowie Memorial Hospital.

The report indicates Michael Stephen Stout, 32, was fishing with his six-year-old son at a manmade oil field tank in the 800 block of Rocky Road Saturday afternoon.

“The boy called his mom at 12:22 p.m. and told her his dad had fallen in the water and he could not get him out. The mom called a friend who was closer to the site and stayed on the phone with the boy. An ambulance also was called to the scene,” explained the chief deputy.

Mitchell said Stout had a history of seizures, but it is unclear if that had anything to do with his drowning.

Funeral service for Stout will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 24 at Christ Community Church in Nocona. Family visitation is 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Scott Morris Funeral Home.
