IN BRIEF: Red Sox activate RHP Workman

Published

on

Former Bowie High School pitcher Brandon Workman, currently undergoing rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery, has been activated by the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox made the move, activating Workman from the 60-day disabled list, on Nov. 6.
The move returns Workman to the Red Sox 40-man roster.
It’s expected Workman will be out until around midseason as Brandon works his way back from the surgery.
Catcher Christian Vazquez, right-handed pitchers Clay Buchholz, Koji Uehara and Anthony Varvaro also were reinstated to the team.
The Red Sox roster now sits at 38 players.
Workman had Tommy John surgery to relieve right elbow strain in mid-June. This occurred after he received a platelet-rich plasma injection in hopes of avoiding the procedure. Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery in Pensacola, Fla.
Workman pitched a scoreless eighth inning of Boston’s World Series-clinching Game Six against the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2014, Workman was dismal at 1-10 with a 5.17 earned-run average in 19 appearances, including 15 starts.
Workman is a 2007 graduate of Bowie High School.

The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model.
