OUTDOORS: Paddle in Fort Worth

The Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge had a community paddling event on Nov. 1 to officially open the 70th trail in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Texas Paddling Trail System.
The trail, known as the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge Paddling Trail, traces near seven-mile loop along the West Fork of the Trinity River northwest of the Fort Worth city center.
Paddlers may float the trail in two to three hours. The trail has two access points, one at Big River and another at Greer Island.
The corridor supports a diverse array of plant and animal life along the river.
Paddlers may see several fish and birds, as well as beavers, turtles, raccoons and even alligators.
There also is a 20-mile natural surface trail system, a visitor’s center with static and live exhibits, a small bison herd and prairie dog town.
There will be guided canoe and kayak trips along the new paddling trail as well.
Visit www.fwnaturecenter.org for a complete calendar of events.
For information about the trail, call the center at 1-817-392-7410.
