Bowie Memorial Hospital Authority board meets with bidder
By BARBARA GREEN
Members of the Bowie Memorial Hospital Authority Board met with one of the hospital bidders mid-week hearing his vision of a local operation before going into executive session to debate specifics.
No action was taken on the two bids.
Faraz F. Hashmi, vice president of operations for Texas General Hospital, met with the board Wednesday. TGH submitted a bid to purchase the hospital, along with the Brough Group, a Houston-based company. Both companies would like to open a “for-profit” hospital.
Texas General Hospital is owned and operated by the Hashmi family, whose patriarch is Dr. Hasan Hashmi, chairman of the TGH board. He is joined by his sons, Suleman Hashmi, chief executive officer, and Faraz.
The company operates a hospital in Grand Prairie and the Van Zandt Regional Medical Center in Grand Saline. The senior Hashmi is a prominent Pakistani surgeon and entrepreneur.
