BMH sets final sale deadline for Feb. 15
Things continue to change at a fast pace for the former Bowie Memorial Hospital as the board found it did not qualify for a government program as previously hoped and set a Feb. 15 deadline for a sales contract.
One week ago the board proposed a contract with an investment broker to pursue the New Market Tax Credit program that could assist with the sale of the hospital. Jose Marques of the Colmar Group, LLC, made the pitch to find investors, however, the board learned Thursday that plan is not possible.
Chief Executive Officer Heller explained the hospital does not initially qualify for that program based on its designation. BMH was designated as medically underserved, however, to qualify an area must be “distressed medically underserved” community. It is unclear if the city could qualify for that designation or how long it would take, so the plan was scrapped.
After spending several months trying to get the hospital sold and on a prospect that failed to meet the financial requirements, the board voted to set a final deadline for a sales contract on Feb. 15. Heller said they are running out of resources and time. Read the full story in the weekend News.
