HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Nocona girls are runner-up at Valley View

The Nocona High School girls’ basketball team finished as the runner-up at the Valley View Tournament on Saturday evening.
Ponder defeated the Lady Indians 47-43, which was a dramatic improvement from the first game between the two schools earlier in the same event.
Makenzie Franklin and Emma Meekins were named to the all-tournament team.
“I am very pleased with the way we played in this tournament,” Nocona head coach Heather Nobile said. “Our shooting and our defense is getting better with every game.”
Meekins scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds. Franklin tossed in 10 points to go with five rebounds. Jamie Carpenter and Sherese Price both snared six rebounds. Franklin dished off three assists and Carpenter swiped three steals.
Franklin scored 27 points and Meekins 16 in a 63-60 victory over Valley View earlier in the tournament.
