The road back to the University Interscholastic League playoffs starts Thursday for the Bowie High School baseball team.
The Jackrabbits will play host to the American Cancer Society Tournament, with a game versus Mineral Wells at 3:45 p.m. followed by a game versus Peaster.
The team also plays Decatur, Godley, Bridgeport and S&S Consolidated (Sadler) during the event.
“We have a lot of experience coming back,” Bowie head baseball coach Ryan Rogers said.
That’s despite losing four players to graduation, and all of them are now having successful collegiate careers.
Bowie rose into the upper echelon of regional baseball programs last year, with a record of 26-3-2 and an unblemished 14-0 mark in District 3A-9. The Jackrabbits advanced to the area round before falling to Palmer in a best-of-3 series.
Rogers believes the Jackrabbits can win the district again.
“I think we should win it,” Rogers said. “We have high expectations.”
Henrietta and Paradise will challenge Bowie for the top spot. Nocona, Holliday and Boyd all will be in the mix for playoff positions as well. Read more, and see the season schedule, in the March 2 Bowie News.
