HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Season ramps up for Rabbits

Golf season ramps up next week for the Bowie High School boys’ and girls’ golf teams as they play host to their own tournaments.
The girls’ tournament is set for 9 a.m. on Monday, with the boys’ event set for the same time on Wednesday at Twisted Oaks Golf Club.
Players will receive a meal deal, and this is an 18-hole formatted tournament, but players will deal with differing tee boxes during each nine holes.
“We have most everybody back on the boys’ side,” Bowie head golf coach Jonathan Horton said. “And Chloe Polk qualified for the regional tournament.”
Horton said the players have enjoyed recent good weather – getting plenty of practice time at Twisted Oaks.
So, what will make Twisted Oaks such a challenge?
“It’s the trees,” Horton said. “You have to squeeze shots down the fairways. You have to place your shots. You can’t just swing away.”
Horton said he’s looking forward to seeing how the players adjust to Twisted Oaks’ redesign as the course has been reduced from 18 holes to nine holes. Read more, and see the season schedule, in the March 5 Bowie News.
