For the first four innings, Wednesday’s District 3A-9 opener between the Bowie and Nocona High School softball teams was competitive.
Bowie was down 5-4 heading into the top of the fifth inning, and then the Lady Rabbits proceeded to score 13 runs for a 17-5 victory.
For Bowie head coach Brant Farris, it was about the Lady Rabbits finding success the third time through the lineup versus Nocona pitcher Emily Wall.
“The kids had to get focused on making sure they had good pitches to hit,” Farris said.
Bowie batters concentrated on hitting the ball to right field. Meanwhile, pitcher Bowie pitcher Kalee Case shut down the Lady Indians in the fifth, sixth and seventh frames.
“Kalee worked ahead in the count, and I think she started to throw harder,” Farris said. “She was starting to blow fastballs by the lower half of their lineup.”
Winning the district opener gave the Lady Rabbits (9-6-2, 1-0) a shot of confidence heading into Friday night’s 3A-9 clash with Boyd.
Meanwhile, Nocona was left searching for answers, dropping to 4-6, 0-1. The Lady Indians traveled to Holliday to play the always dangerous Lady Eagles on Friday. Read more, and see the complete box score and District 3A-9 standings, in the March 12 Bowie News.
