LOCAL: Baseball, softball ratings released

West, with a record of 14-1, continues to lead the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association poll released on March 31.
Bowie (11-7-1) is not ranked in the poll, despite an unblemished District 3A-9 record.
Jim Ned is rated sixth, Farmersville seventh and Van Alstyne 10th. Brock and Wall also are receiving votes.
Bowie on the outside looking in
Hallettsville is ranked No. 1 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association Conference 3A poll with an 18-1 record.
Brock has moved up to third place, with Howe 23rd and Peaster also receiving votes. Bowie was not ranked yet possessing an overall 14-7-2 record, and 6-1 in District 3A-9.
District 1A-21 golf, tennis
The District 1A-21 boys and girls golf meet will is set for 9 a.m. on April 4 at Nocona Hills Golf Club in Nocona.
Prairie Valley will serve as the tournament host. Saint Jo, Gold-Burg, Bellevue and Forestburg also will be in the event.
The District 1A-21 tennis tournament is set for April 6-7 at Denton High School, with Tioga serving as the tournament host. Bellevue, Saint Jo, Gold-Burg, Forestburg and Prairie Valley will be in the event.
Nocona players earn academic honors
Six Nocona High School girls earned academic honors from the Texas Girls Coaches Association based in Austin.
The six players were as follows, in alphabetical order: Jamie Carpenter, Kalyn Crow, Karlie Pepper, Sherese Price, Mackie Trumbull and Ali Walker.

Karate student wins awards

The North Texas Karate Alliance hosted its annual awards banquet on Feb. 1 in Cleburne.
Bowie’s own Brycen Ivy was the recipient of four awards. Awards are won based on points accumulated through the year at various tournaments hosted all around North Texas. Ivy won the following: Best of the Best Kata Division Champion Adult Men Black Belt, Best of the Best Continuing Sparring Division Adult Men Black Belt, Best of the Best Weapons Kata Division Champion Adult Men Black Belt, and Best of the Best Points Sparring Division Adult Men Black Belt. He is the 18-year-old son of Steve and Chanda Ivy of Bowie. He attends the North Texas Karate Academy in Bridgeport Texas with instructor Stephen Starnes. He is a 3rd degree Black Belt.
