TRACK AND FIELD: 3A-9 meet set today, Thursday

The Bowie and Nocona High School track and field teams will compete at the District 3A-9 meet in Jacksboro on April 4 and April 7.
The April 4 session will begin with a coaches meeting at 10 a.m., followed by the following field events:
11 a.m.: Long jump (varsity boys), triple jump (junior varsity boys), high jump (varsity/JV girls), discus (JV boys) and shot put (varsity boys)
12:30 a.m.: Triple jump (varsity/JV girls), high jump (varsity boys), pole vault (JV boys), discus (varsity boys) and shot put (JV boys).
2 p.m.: Long jump (varsity girls, JV girls), high jump (JV boys), pole vault (varsity boys) and discus (varsity girls, JV girls)
3:30 p.m.: Long jump (JV boys), triple jump (varsity boys), pole vault (varsity girls, JV girls), and shot put (varsity girls/JV girls)
5 p.m.: Running preliminaries: 100-meter hurdles, 110 meter high hurdles, 100 dash, 400 dash, 300 intermediate hurdles, 200 dash and 3,200 run (JV girls, JV boys, varsity girls, varsity boys). Events will follow the timed schedule, which wraps up with the 3,200 run at 6:30 p.m.
The April 7 session will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the 400 relay followed by the 800 run, 100 hurdles, 110 high hurdles (boys), 100 dash, 800 relay, 400 dash, 300 hurdles, 200 dash, 1,600 run and 1,600 relay.

Karate student wins awards

The North Texas Karate Alliance hosted its annual awards banquet on Feb. 1 in Cleburne.
Bowie’s own Brycen Ivy was the recipient of four awards. Awards are won based on points accumulated through the year at various tournaments hosted all around North Texas. Ivy won the following: Best of the Best Kata Division Champion Adult Men Black Belt, Best of the Best Continuing Sparring Division Adult Men Black Belt, Best of the Best Weapons Kata Division Champion Adult Men Black Belt, and Best of the Best Points Sparring Division Adult Men Black Belt. He is the 18-year-old son of Steve and Chanda Ivy of Bowie. He attends the North Texas Karate Academy in Bridgeport Texas with instructor Stephen Starnes. He is a 3rd degree Black Belt.
