Bowie High School tennis players Meagan Russell and Myah Russell continue to rewrite history.
The Russells are the first-ever Bowie athletes to compete at the University Interscholastic League state tennis tournament in back-to-back years.
“It means a lot,” Myah Russell said. “We worked hard to get first (at the regional tournament), and we both want to do better at state.”
Twin sister Meagan Russell added, “I could see the improvement in us, and we plan on advancing at state.”
The Russells will find out if they have improved among the state’s elite at the UIL tournament set for May 16-17 at the Mitchell Tennis Center on the Texas A&M University campus in College Station.
Last year, the Lago Vista duo of Kelsey Mumford and Emily Wheeler garnered the state championship and the Russells suffered a first-round exit.
So, how have the Russells improved?
“We are playing more consistently,” said Meagan Russell. “We are making more plays and our placement is better.” Read more in the May 14 Bowie News.
