OUTDOORS: TPWD postpones CWD decision

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission on Friday postponed their decision regarding proposed changes to regulations for managing chronic wasting disease (CWD).
The commission wants to conduct a more thorough review, said the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in a press release.
“How Texas responds to the prevalence of CWD in its captive deer herd will have significant effects on the way state wildlife agencies and animal health organizations mitigate issues from here on out,” said TPW Chairman T. Dan Friedkin.
Friedkin said the group wants additional time to review proposed rules.
Following an extensive hearing where commission members heard from a wide range of stakeholders, landowners and licensed deer breeders, Friedkin recommended tabling a formal decision on the proposed changes.
Friedkin said a special meeting may take place in June to vote on the changes. The time, date and location of the special meeting have yet to be announced.
