Tragic accidents claim two lives: Woman dies after crash; boy age two drowns

A pair of tragic accidents this week claimed the life of a longtime Bowie woman in a car-18-wheeler wreck on Tuesday night, while a two-year-old boy drowned in a pond south of Bowie Thursday afternoon.

Accident

A 26-year-old Bowie woman died Wednesday from injuries she received in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday night.

Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Dan Buesing said Chelsea Maria Cleveland was pronounced dead about 3 p.m. on Wednesday at United Regional.

The collision occurred about 10 p.m. on May 10 on Farm-to-Market 174 just west of U.S. Highway 287, northwest of Bowie.

Drowning

Montague County Sheriff Paul Cunningham said an ambulance was paged out to 503 Feed Store Road about 2:30 p.m. on May 12 for a possible drowning.

Family members found Johnny Case Smith, son of Sarah Smith, unresponsive in the pond.

Emergency personnel transported him to Wise Regional Health Care Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Brief agenda awaits city council

Members of the Bowie City Council will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. on May 13 in council chambers.
The meeting opens with a proclamation for Emergency Medical Services Week.
City Manager Bert Cunningham will report on recent rainfall problems, Smythe Street sidewalk project and the substation work.
There is only one item of new business an ordinance related to speed limits on specific streets. Public comments and approval of minutes wrap up the agenda.
