Bowie High School senior Trace Hardee tripled to deep right field in the bottom of the seventh during Game Three of a best-of-3 Conference 3A regional semifinal against Van Alstyne.
That put a possible game-tying run at third base.
“I think that sums up the kids,” Bowie head coach Ryan Rogers said. “We never quit, and we had an opportunity at the end.”
However, Kamry Weber grounded out to shortstop to end the game, and Van Alstyne players scurried onto the field on this sultry late May day in Kennedale in celebration.
An incredible season came to a close for Bowie, who finished with a record of 27-11-1.
This was a historic campaign for the Jackrabbits, who advanced to the regional semifinals for only the third time in school history behind an exemplary group of senior players.
Rogers didn’t second guess starting left-hander Barrett Brooks in the third game, although Brooks was pulled after 1/3 of an inning. Read more, and see complete box scores from both games, in the June 1 Bowie News.

Shackelford was called out, and Allen had to return to second later since the umpiring crew deemed time was called.
