Five of six Montague County high school volleyball teams have been fine tuning for the season ahead with scrimmages this weekend.
The regular season kicks off on Tuesday for several teams, with several traditional openers on the docket.
Bowie, a playoff qualifier from the 2015 season, will face Archer City at 8 p.m. on Aug. 9 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the Midwestern State University campus.
Head coach Jeanie Stark expects a competitive match, and the Lady Rabbits and Lady Cats extended to a five-game match twice.
Archer City advanced to the Conference 2A regional finals before falling to Windthorst in five by scores of 19-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-25, and 15-8. The Lady Cats are ranked in the Texas Girls Coaches Association preseason 2A poll.
Bowie was a bi-district loser against Gunter, but the Lady Rabbits pushed their opponent to four games (25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-23).
Also, Forestburg will face Christ Academy at Flatt gymnasium, also located at MSU, at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 9.
This will mark the first time Forestburg and Christ Academy, a Wichita Falls-based school, have played each other – although CA has faced other Montague County schools before. Read more in the Aug. 6 Bowie News.
