Beginning with the December billing, City of Bowie electric customers will see a 25 percent decrease in their power bill for residential use.

The City of Bowie received its first bulk power bill under the new rates from Bryan Texas Utilities in November and there is a savings of almost $63,000.

A few customers already received a bill with the reduction but all residential customers will see it in December. The new per kilowatt hour rate is 11.14 cents, compared to 15.17 cents.

City Manager Bert Cunningham said the October bulk power bill was $348,844.04, down $62,987.73 from the $411,831.77 last October. He pointed out the city used more kilowatt hours for this time period than it did last year. Based on the same amount of usage the difference is $66,851.

In October 2017 the volume was 5,366,739 KWh, while in October 2018 the volume was 5,489,962 KWh.
