Montague County Commissioners cut a little here, added a little more there, but as of Monday the county was looking at a proposed budget with a $403,934 deficit; however, the effective tax rate is still being calculated and more cuts are anticipated to avoid any large increase in the tax rate.
County officials approved filing of the proposed budget Monday in order to meet the end of July deadline, but afterward they proceeded to make adjustments across the board.
County Judge Rick Lewis touched on a few of the big items being considered for the budget including a five percent pay raise for all employees and a year that includes one extra pay period that will be approximately $222,991 in extra payroll. It will be seven years before that comes around again.
That amount would go up to $275,054 if the county goes forward with the five percent pay raise for all employees. In recent years the county has alternate years for pay increases. Read the full story in the mid-week Bowie News.
