Montague County Commissioners Monday approved a proposed 2019 tax rate and set public hearing dates for the rate and budget.
The tax rate hearings will be at 9 a.m. on Aug. 22 and 8:45 a.m. on Aug. 26. The budget hearing will be at 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 9.
Tax Assessor-Collector Kathryn Phillips presented the certification of appraised values which total $1,991,960,659.
The effective tax rate is .5417 cents per $100 in property value, while the rollback rate is .5804 cents. The effective rate is the number needed to generate the same amount of tax revenue as the prior year. The rollback rate is the maximum amount allowed before a possible rollback election.
County Judge Rick Lewis said after working with the county auditor on some of the final budget figures he recommends they go with a proposed rate of .55 cents per $100 in property value. Read the full story in the mid-week Bowie News.
