No citizens attend tax rate hearing; budget adopted in first reading

There were no public comments on the proposed tax rate for the City of Bowie during Monday night’s city council meeting, and the first reading of the proposed budget was approved.
Prior to diving into the agenda, Mayor Gaylynn Burris presented Dillon Steen and Margin Latham with a proclamation for Beautify Our Bowie. On behalf of the city, she commended the efforts of this committee to beautify the city specifically Meyer Park adding she looks forward to seeing their next project.
A second public hearing on the proposed tax rate of .5445 cents per $100 in property value will be on Sept. 9. This rate is .0195 cents higher than the present rate of .5250. That rate is projected to generate $130,620 in ad valorem tax revenue. Read the full story in the mid-week Bowie News.
The staff of Brazos Electric Cooperative will host a public meeting to share information and receive feedback on a proposed 138kV transmission line project in Montague County.
This meeting will be from 4-6 p.m. on July 27 in the H.J. Justin Building, 100 Clay, Nocona.

This come-and-go public meeting will provide information and seek input on the rebuild and upgrade of a 14-mile transmission line. The propoosed 138kV double-circuit transmission line will connect the existing Alcorn Substation on Salmon Road with the existing Capps Corner Substation on Farm-to-Market Road 1956 and FM 677. The proposed right-of-way width for the new transmission line is 70 feet.
Attendees will be able to make comments, ask questions and share concerns with Brazos representatives and technical specialists from Oaklight Environmental Consulting.
